New speed limit of 10km/h for Kahutara Road Bridge

A temporary speed limit of 10km/h is now in place for all vehicles using the Kahutara Road Bridge.

The lower speed limit has been introduced while the bridge is subject to an ongoing engineering assessment. There is no danger to the public and speed reductions are a precautionary measure only.

Structural engineers recently inspected the bridge and identified areas that require further monitoring and maintenance.

As a precaution, and following professional advice, our Ruamāhanga Roading Team is implementing interim safety measures while long‑term options are developed in early 2026.

In addition to the reduced speed limit, work to clear debris and logjams around the bridge piles is scheduled for the New Year.

We will continue regular monitoring and follow engineering guidance to ensure the bridge remains safe for the community. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

The Kahutara Road Bridge is located on Kahutara Road, near the East-West Access Road junction.
