Notice – Roadside spraying starts in October

South Wairarapa District Council will begin its spring roadside spraying programme in rural areas this month, October 2025, and is anticipated to last between four to eight weeks.

Details to know about the spraying.

  • If you are already on the No Spray Register, please make sure that your roadside No Spray Markers are out and clearly visible.
  • If you are not on the No Spray Register and would like to be, the details of how to get onto this register are outlined below.

How often does the spraying takes place?

  • The spraying takes place twice a year, in autumn and spring. The work will be undertaken by our council contractor, Fulton Hogan.
  • This programme is considered general spraying, which means it is designed to keep roadside traffic signs clear of plant growth so they are visible for everyone to see.
  • The spraying also aims to keep the water table down.

Are you on the No Spray Register?

  • If you are on our No Spray Registers, please remember to make your roadside No Spray Markers clearly visible to our contractors from the road. One of the requirements of being on these registers is that you maintain the No Spray area to control vegetation and maintain sight lines for all road users.
  • We appreciate your help in ensuring your property is clearly identifiable as a No Spray zone.

If you want to enrol on the No Spray Register, please follow these steps

  • Fill in the online form available here
  • Send your form to: enquiries@swdc.govt.nz

How can I get No Spray markers for my property?

  • The first step is to sign up to our Council’s No Spray Register.
  • When you have signed up to the NoSpray Register, the Council will contact Fulton Hogan to arrange for the markers to be installed by them.
