Burning farm plastics is still common in rural areas but it is extremely harmful to health and the environment. Our council is supporting a Government proposal to make it easier and fairer for all farmers to access recycling and take-back services.
A regulated, nationwide scheme would achieve the following outcomes
- Make it easier to dispose of farm waste responsibly
- Reduce environmental damage from burning or burying plastics
- Ensure producers share the cost of managing waste
A consultation is currently underway and the Government is seeking feedback on proposed regulations to enable a national take-back and recycling scheme. The proposed scheme would be for agrichemicals, the containers they come in and plastics used in farming.
Your feedback can help to bring positive change and shared cost of disposal
Consultation closes Sunday 1 June – please take the chance to influence how farm waste is best managed in the future.
