Council invites community to Kai Resilience Wānanga

Waiwaste, Featherston Community Centre and South Wairarapa District Council are partnering to deliver a Kai Resilience Wānanga to manaaki groups, organisations and volunteers who are working in the community kai and pātaka kai space in South Wairarapa. 

The Council is excited to share kai and foster local kai connections with the community at a Kai Resilience Wānanga on Friday 6 June in Featherston.

The one day event aims to manaaki the community working on the ground to deliver emergency food and community kai resilience and together foster a more kai resilient future. The Kai Resilience Wānanga includes guest speakers, panel discussion, activities and local kai.

“We want to manaaki groups, organisations and volunteers who are working in the community kai and pātaka kai space in the South Wairarapa and this is a broad continuum from emergency food provision, to growing local food, to initiatives enabling or aspiring towards kai resilience and soil sovereignty. The Kai Resilience Wānanga is about coming together to share, learn, and collaborate to support a more kai resilient future for our community,” says Siv Fjaerestad, Community Development Advisor.

Where, when and how

This wānanga is for groups, organisations, marae, volunteers, individuals, businesses and anyone who is involved in emergency food provision and kai resilience initiatives in South Wairarapa.

The Kai Resilience Wānanga begins at 9.15am with sign-ins and finishes at 3.30pm. It is to be held at Pae tū Mōkai o Tauira, 23 Soldiers Settlement Road North, Featherston.
