South Wairarapa’s Mayor and Councillors took a road trip last Thursday to visit some of the district’s roading, water and community infrastructure assets.
The purpose of the day was to provide an overview of these assets – many of which are aging – and to gain an appreciation of the geographic size of the district and scale of work involved in some of the big infrastructure challenges ahead.
Councillors were briefed on projects both planned and on the go, including upgrades to Lake Ferry playground, the Featherston toilets, the Tauwharenīkau pipeline renewal, Greytown water treatment plant upgrade, and particular challenges regarding bridges on our roading infrastructure.
Our subject matter experts went along for the ride so elected members could have their questions answered in detail. Many of the sites visited will require decisions made by our Councillors over the 2025-28 triennium.

The next SWDC Infrastructure Committee meeting is at the Martinborough Waihinga Centre on Thursday 12 February at 1.30pm. People are welcome to attend the meeting or watch the livestream on our YouTube channel.
