The Wairarapa Smoke and Vape Free Policy was recently adopted by the Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa District Councils (the Wairarapa District Councils). This joint policy sets out the commitment of the three Wairarapa District Councils in supporting the goals of Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 and lays out the ways we will work with communities to create smoke and vape free environments and shared community spaces.
In adopting this policy, we are making a commitment to encourage healthy, clean environments and public spaces free from exposure to tobacco smoke and cigarette litter. Through encouraging our communities to become smokefree, we can lead the way to supporting healthier lifestyles.
The Wairarapa District Councils do not promote vaping for young people or non-smokers. This Policy is focused on ways in which we can model positive behaviour for our tamariki and rangatahi and encourages shared public spaces to be both smoke and vape free.
