Wheels Park rolls into action in July

South Wairarapa District Council’s Community Operations Team is excited to announce a start date for phase one for the construction of Greytown Wheels Park of late July.

The Wheels Park will be constructed by Convic Creative Community, which has carved a name for developing over 800 iconic, inclusive, award winning community spaces around the world, including parks in Avalon and Auckland.

“The Greytown Wheels Park is designed for beginners and also includes features to challenge intermediate and advanced skaters so that it fits in with existing parks in the Wairarapa region”, says Councillor Alistair Plimmer.

“It has been a long time coming and has had to overcome many obstacles but it is testament to the perseverance of our community over 20+ years,” says Councillor Plimmer.

Councillor Martin Bosley agrees, adding that he is pleased to see the park moving in a positive direction – “I can’t wait to pop an ollie or two myself.”

Future additions planned for the Greytown Wheels Park include a basketball court, playground and pump track, which the community is planning to fundraise for.

The Council is funding the first phase of the long awaited Greytown Wheels Park  construction and hopes to have it ready for skaters, BMX and scooter users to enjoy by Christmas this year.

“We appreciate the patience of the Greytown community and are excited to deliver a high quality wheels park for all ages to enjoy,” says Councillor Plimmer. “When it’s complete, the Greytown Wheels Park will be a cherished gem in our beautiful town for all ages.”
