Looking for loved ones is easier with Plotbox

New signs with QR codes aim to make life easier when visiting one of our cemeteries in search of a long lost loved one. The signs were installed over the past month at three of our district’s four cemeteries in South Wairarapa at Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough’s main cemetery.

The QR code leads directly to digitised information on Plotbox, a tool that we launched on the Council’s website in 2022 for all of its cemeteries.

The accessibility of the code on the new signs now makes it faster to find people because when you scan the QR code, it leads you directly to an extensive online database of old records, now digitised, to enable you to find a loved one’s location.

Footnote: The Waihenga Cemetery in Martinborough has its records digitised in Plotbox but does not have a new sign in place. Many of its original ‘tombstones’ were lost in a fire but this small area does house the plots of some historic figures, including George Pain Snr while his son, George Pain (of Pain and Kershaw) is buried in the main Martinborough Cemetery.
