Update: 6 May 2022, 10pm
Wellington Water advises that the Ruamahanga Water Treatment Plant is back in operation and is refilling the reservoir in conjunction with bulk water tankers.
Martinborough residents continue to be requested to conserve water. They are assured the water is safe to drink.
Wellington Water was preparing to stand down the tankers at 10pm, provided the plant was operating without problems. The level of the reservoir is expected to be sufficient to cover the morning peak demand.
This afternoon’s problem stemmed from a chlorination dosing fault. The plant will not run without chlorination so Wellington Water has been drawing on treated water in the reservoirs to supply Martinborough.
The water treatment plant’s chlorination system is being monitored and another update is due tomorrow morning.
4pm: Wellington Water has advised that a chlorination dosing fault has developed at the Ruamahanga Treatment Plant and it is asking Martinborough residents and businesses to conserve water urgently to avoid draining the water supply.
While engineers address this matter, the drinking water treatment plant is out of service.
There is no risk to health and we will bring you an update shortly.
