Rates Estimator 2024/25

What could my rates be?

Rates are made up of a general rate, which is based on the property’s land value, capital value, and some targeted rates. To estimate what your 2024-25 rates would be under the Annual Plan, you will need your rates notice and your new property valuation.

If you don’t have your rates notice you can use our Rates Search to get this information.

These rates are:

  • an estimate based on the budgets modelled in the Annual Plan 2024/25 Consultation Document.
  • only for South Wairarapa District Council's rates. For regional rates please see www.gw.govt.nz
  • inclusive of GST.

As we have proposed a new rating model in 2024/25 you will need to estimate your rates by answering the following questions about your property.

New valuation information

On the 17th of April 2024 new valuations and other property details were released online. You can look up those details on the rates search page, or wait for your notice to be emailed/posted to you from Quoteable Value (QV).

FIRST Enter information from your new rating valuation here:
New Land Value:
New Capital Value:
SECOND Enter the number of Separately Used or Inhabitable Parts (SUIPs) on the property here:
Number of SUIPs:
The proposed rating model charges each separately used or inhabitable part (SUIP) of each property one of each relevant fixed rate. For most properties this will be one charge, but if there are additional dwellings or businesses on the property then count each one as a SUIP.
THIRD Answer the seven questions to estimate your targeted rates:
Question 1: Is the property within the Urban boundaries of the district?
You can tell this by looking at your most recent rates notice. If it says a town name for your general rate, then your property is within the urban boundary. If it says rural it's not.
Question 2: Is the property categorised by QV as an exotic foresty block?
You can tell this by looking at your valuation details. If the category is starts with FE, then answer yes. If the category is anything else, answer no.
Question 3: Is the property: categorised as commercial, or used for Short Stay Accommodation (SSA)?
You can tell if your property is classified as commercial by looking at your valuation details. If the category starts with CO, then answer yes.
Short Stay Accommodation is where accommodation is provided in the only building, or a separate building from the main home, that is not under a residential tenancy agreement.
Question 4: Is the property serviced by the refuse & recycling collection service?
The rate will apply to properties where the Council provides, or is able to provide, refuse and recycling collection service.
Question 5: Is the property serviced/serviceable by the water supply network?
The rate will apply to properties connected to, or able to be connected to, the district water supply.
Question 6: Is the property serviced/serviceable by the wastewater network?
The rate will apply to properties connected to, or able to be connected to, the district wastewater network.
Question 7: Is your property part of the Longwood or Moroa water race networks?
You can tell this by looking at your most recent rates notice. If it says either Longwood or Moroa on it then choose the race. If it doesn't then choose No.
