South Wairarapa pedestrian lighting update

The completion of work to install pedestrian lighting across three South Wairarapa towns has been delayed as contractor MMS Group (MMS) has been put into liquidation. While South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) has not been formally notified, it is understood that an application to put MMS into liquidation has been made to the High Court by a third party. MMS vacated the site in December and have not returned, informed SWDC verbally that they have ceased trading.

SWDC is working through the legal process to wrap up the contract while at the same time, sourcing another company to finish the project as soon as possible. This still includes pole and light installation at a number of Greytown sites and final electrical works. This situation is beyond the control of SWDC, and it is disappointing and frustrating that there are delays to this project.

Once the project is complete, all 16 pedestrian crossings across Martinborough, Featherston and Greytown will have standardised lighting to address concerns from the community about nighttime safety around the town centres.
