Rubbish and recycling collection

Find out when rubbish and recycling collections take place across the South Wairarapa district and who is eligible for this service.

When will my rubbish be collected?

Please ensure your rubbish is in Council rubbish bags and on the kerb along with your recycling wheelie bin or crates by 7.30am on your collection day.

All recycling must be in Council recycling receptacles.

When there is a public holiday, all urban collections will happen one day later than usual.

Coastal collections

For public holidays, coastal collections are on standard days except if Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Monday or Friday. In these cases, pick-ups are delayed by one day (to Boxing Day and the day after New Year’s Day).

Who is eligible for this service

If you pay the refuse collection charge in your rates, you receive a kerbside rubbish and recycling service. Properties that receive this service include:

  • Urban residents
  • Some rural residents en route to the transfer station, where it’s safe for the truck to stop
  • Some coastal properties

Rural ratepayers can drop recycling off at the transfer and recycling stations for free.
