Opening hours at South Wairarapa District Council’s three libraries are changing from Saturday 1 July, 2023.
The Wairarapa Library Service is shared with Carterton District, and runs four libraries in our region, in Greytown, Featherston, Martinborough and Carterton.
A change in the funding model for the libraries in the 2023/24 Annual Plan budget has meant that there are insufficient staffing numbers to maintain the same service level as previously. The new roster will enable the libraries to remain open as much as possible, taking into account commuters who might not be able to visit the library during the week.
Demand at our libraries has risen substantially. Library membership and issues of items in the year to February rose 29 per cent.
“We are very mindful that the library service is an important part of our community and we are doing the best we can to keep all our libraries open within current constraints,” interim Chief Executive Paul Gardner said.
Greytown and Featherston library, which double as service centres, will continue to offer the services they currently do such as sales of rubbish bags, rates rebates forms and processing rates payments.
Rates payments can also be made at the Council’s offices or online via our website (in the “Pay for Something” section).
Dog registrations payments, which are due in July, can also be made at libraries, online via the Council’s website, www.swdc.govt.nz or at the Council offices.
