E-waste disposal launch

From Monday 1st October you are able to dispose of electronic waste free of charge at Martinborough Transfer Station.

The establishment of the e-waste drop-off services was proposed in Masterton, Carterton and South Wairarapa’s long-term plan consultation and received support from residents.

The initiative is intended to reduce e-waste being landfilled and enable valuable electronic materials to be recovered. It also replaces the TV take-back programme discontinued by the Ministry for the Environment.

Domestic e-waste items must be complete and unbroken (not damaged or partially disassembled), and includes the following:

·       Computers, laptops, tablets, PCs

·       Servers, routers, modems, printers

·       Hifi stereos, amplifiers

·       Video/DVD/CD/tape players, speakers

·       Household whiteware, kitchen appliances

·       Stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, ovens, vacuum cleaners

·       TVs, washing machines, dryers

·       Car batteries, workshop tools.

Note:

  • Damaged or disassembled items can be taken to Martinborough Transfer for disposal as waste.  Normal waste disposal charges apply.
  • Commercial quantities of e-waste will not be accepted.
