Easing of Watering Restrictions for all of South Wairarapa, for now

10 February 2020

South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen is delighted with Martinborough, Greytown and Featherston’s efforts in conserving water over the past two weeks since a total outdoor water ban was applied to all of South Wairarapa.

“Thank you to everyone for your efforts in conserving water and observing the complete outdoor water ban. Because everyone has played their part the strict ban has been lifted, and people may water their gardens using hand-held devices only, on alternate days – please no irrigation devices, sprinklers or unattended hoses,” says Mr Beijen.

“But with no significant rainfall forecast we’ll need to be careful. A close eye will be kept on water consumption, and outdoor water restrictions will be reassessed in a week’s time,” says Mr Beijen.

Information on current water restrictions and consumption levels for all three South Wairarapa towns, along with further tips on how to conserve water, is available at wellingtonwater.co.nz/SWDC

The year-round, alternate-day watering restriction means even-numbered properties can water on even-numbered dates and odd-numbered on odd-dates.

Two-hundred litre water tanks, with installation kit, are available for $105 from Council offices to enable roof-top water collection and storage for garden and emergency use. More information available at swdc.govt.nz/water-tanks.
