Press Release –17 April 2018
The Featherston retail development proposal by Marcus Darley and Neil McLachlan has been withdrawn.
The resource consent was lodged to the South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) by Mr Darley and Mr McLachlan in September 2017.
SWDC Chief Executive, Paul Crimp says both parties had been working through the consent logistics and information required. The consent was put on hold during November 2017 in an attempt to resolve these.
“We’ve had several discussions and meetings to try and resolve the issues, neither party were able to resolve the outstanding issues in order for the resource consent to proceed.”
“It’s disappointing for Featherston that the proposed development is now not going ahead, it would have been an asset to this vibrant town and the South Wairarapa as a whole.”
“Marcus is a well-known and respected entrepreneur and I am sure he will continue with his strong vision for our region and continue to be a valuable contributor.”
SWDC will undertake an economic analysis of the land before it goes back on sale. SWDC will continue to keep the piece of land in good repair during this time.
