Council will meet this week to consider over 800 written submissions and listen to members of the public presenting their submissions before making decisions on the Long Term Plan and Spatial Plan Growth Option proposals.
The community was encouraged to have its say on the Big Challenges Big Decisions proposed South Wairarapa District Council Long Term Plan 2021-2031 and Mapping our Future to 2020: Residential Growth Options between Friday 31 March 2021 and Friday 30 April 2021.
For the LTP consultation, 685 submissions were received: 544 submitted online (79%), 71 submissions were dropped to the library or Council office (10%), 64 submissions were received by email (9%), five submissions were received by post (0.7%) and there is one verbal submission to be made at the Council hearing.
Submitters were asked to provide details of whether they were an urban, rural or commercial ratepayer, or a non-ratepayer. The breakdown of submitters on the Long Term Plan were as follows: 48% urban; 36% rural; 1.6% commercial; and 14% non-ratepayer. Ratepayer details were not provided by 4% of all submitters. There were 43 submissions received on behalf of an organisation.
For the consultation on Spatial Plan – Residential Growth Options, a total of 213 submissions were received. The breakdown of submissions was as follows: 50% from Martinborough residents; 37% from Greytown residents; 10% from Featherston residents; and 2% were non-resident.

The hearings and deliberations for both consultations will be held at the Waihinga Centre from Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 May. The Long Term Plan, including a high-level districtwide Spatial Plan diagram and map, will be adopted on 30 June. Work will continue on the Spatial Plan, including masterplanning for the towns, community engagement and planning beyond residential growth.
