Road Safety Week is organised by Brake, a road safety charity that works to prevent road deaths and injury, make streets and communities safer and support the victims of road crashes. Brake launched Road Safety Week in New Zealand in 2012 as an annual event to raise awareness nationwide about road safety and promote steps we can all take to prevent deaths and injuries on the road every day of the year. Brake coordinates Road Safety Week in the United Kingdom and has done since 1997.

Road Safety Week is sponsored by BECA and the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
