Martinborough Library Closure 16 July 2012
The Martinborough Library will be closed from Monday 16 July 2012 after consideration of post-Christchurch earthquake strengthening reports, and recent changes to the New Building Standards. The current Library building is outside the standards and the search for a new Library location is underway.
One of the reasons behind the closure is that the Library is a public building with a high volume of people inside for long periods of time. Retail customers tend to do their shopping and then leave. Library customers are in the building for longer periods of time browsing for books, using the internet, attending holiday reading programmes, listening to music and more.
In order to provide continuity of service a temporary Library service will be available by 18/19 July (location to be announced). We will then focus on finding a new building for the Library. A temporary building could be used for up to a year if we cannot locate a permanent location right away, but the goal is to find a suitable permanent location.
