New defibrillators for Featherston

South Wairarapa District Council and Wellington Free Ambulance (WFA) have been working on two new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for installation in Featherston, the first of which has now been installed by WFA on the fence between the Traditional Wood Inlay Craft building and Bric & Bow.

The installation of the AEDs is intended to save lives in medical emergencies and strengthen communities to know how to use them to help people who may experience a sudden cardiac arrest.

The second AED is planned to be installed near to the Featherston Library & museum. This one will replace an old AED at the library. WFA plans to provide free community training on the AEDs and CPR once they are installed.

The new AEDs have been made possible, thanks to the Community Wellbeing Fund, which granted $18,000 to Wellington Free ambulance for community defibrillators.

In addition to the two new Featherston AEDs, the grant also made it possible for an AED to be installed at Martinborough Swimming Pool and Pump Track and an AED is also planned to be installed at Greytown Swimming Pool.
