KiwiRail are continuing their safety upgrades at the Fitzherbert Street level crossing this weekend to get ready for the next stage of upgrading the railway pedestrian crossing.

2 – 3 March
9pm Saturday 2 March – 8am Sunday 3 March: Full closure of SH2 at the crossing – detour will be in place.

• Installation of remaining traffic signs.
• Installation of in ground ducting and signal bases in the rail corridor by the level crossing. 
• Installation of Fencing at the permanent position around the pedestrian crossing. 

6 – 7 March
9pm Wednesday 6 March – 5.30am Thursday 7 March: Full closure of SH2 at the crossing – detour will be in place.

• Remove existing asphalt of 600mm and relay with hot mix asphalt around both median islands and install band seal.
• Installation of second coat line marking. 
• Painting the median and side island kerbs.
