Help protect Greytown’s trees and wildlife. Possums are a growing threat to Greytown’s leafy heritage, gardens, and native wildlife.
Greater Wellington Regional Council is running the Greytown Township Possum Control Project as part of the wider RPCP South Wairarapa Plains Operation and looking for local property owners to get involved.
The project covers around 450 hectares across the Greytown township and uses a range of methods including safe, well-established kill traps suited to residential areas. No control is undertaken on private property without the owner’s consent, and training can be provided for anyone who wants to help.
By reducing possum numbers, we can:
- Protect native trees and birds
- Reduce damage to gardens and fruit trees
- Lower the risk of bovine TB to livestock
How you can help
You can support the project by allowing access, hosting or checking traps on your property, or using your own trap and logging results through the TrapNZ app.
