An application has been made for a temporary road closure on Western Lake Road over Easter weekend from Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April.

The section of Western Lake Road that is likely to close is for the coordinates -41.125495, 175.309910.

Mills Albert Limited has been engaged by KiwiRail to install a new surface and sub-surface infrastructure to allow for safety upgrades to the rail crossing.

It is intended that the under road trenching, track replacement and signalling infrastructure will be completed under a heavy vehicle road closure with a light vehicle detour in place to direct traffic around the operation zone.

Road closure application details

• Work will take place on Western Lakes Road -41.125495, 175.309910 from 6am on Friday 18 April til 6pm on Monday 21 April.
• A temporary diversion route will be in place for light vehicles only. There will be a detour route for heavy vehicles.
• A traffic management plan is to be submitted.

Key information about the road closure

• A light vehicle diversion will in place on Western Lakes Road around the work area. See attached plan.
• A pedestrian diversion will be in place on Western Lakes Road around the work area. See attached plan.
• A heavy vehicle detour will be in place, as outlined in detail on the image as pictured below.
• No contingency days have been factored into this work, on the rail block of line (no trains). Please note that the road is likely to be reopened earlier than 6pm on Monday 21 April but this time has been set as a contingency.
• VMS boards will be in place to notify road users and will be shown in the traffic management plan.
