South Wairarapa District Council’s 2023-24 Annual Report adoption delayed

Despite South Wairarapa District Council’s commitment to transparency and accountability, unforeseen circumstances within external auditors Audit New Zealand have delayed the adoption of SWDC’s Annual Report for the 2023-24 financial year, and the statutory deadline of 31 October 2024 will not be met.

Due to resourcing issues at Audit New Zealand, the review process was unable to be completed on schedule. During the 30 October Council meeting where Audit New Zealand’s Karen Young addressed Council, it was noted that the delay was not caused by Council or its officers, who were acknowledged for their exceptional support, professionalism, and timely provision of all necessary information throughout the audit process.

The Council remains dedicated to delivering accurate and comprehensive financial reporting to the community and will continue to work closely with Audit New Zealand to resolve the issues promptly. A revised timeline for the adoption of the Annual Report will be communicated to the public as soon as it is available.

“We are disappointed that the statutory deadline for the Annual Report could not be met,” said Mayor Martin Connelly, “However, we want to assure our community that our team worked diligently and effectively with the auditors to provide all required documentation. Their recognition of our efforts underscores our commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent audit process.”
