The Featherston Watermain Renewal project is in its final few weeks to completion. Thank you to the Featherston community for your ongoing patience with the disruption caused in our watermain pipe laying work. Loud noise generating machines will stop operating by 8pm to ensure comfortable compliance with noise control standards.
Night works are necessary to complete our work particularly on Fitzherbert Street SH2, to meet traffic management planning requirements. Working between 7pm and 5am will ensure less impact to the commercial area, road users, and pedestrians, and also less impact to public transport. Traffic staff will be onsite to manage the traffic flows and the pedestrians to ensure that they all pass the worksite safely. This approach maintains continuous traffic flow, avoids long traffic queues and delay, and minimises the overall impact on the traffic network.
Please note that our reinstatement work within the road reserve requires that private vehicles remain out of the area of work; we will mark out these no-park areas in the early afternoon before night works set-up.
The dates and locations of scheduled night works for the next five working days are shown below.
Works at a glance
- Hours of operation are between 7pm-5am
- Noise control: Compliant with NZS6803 – any cutting work will be completed prior to 8pm and noise readings are taken during night works

Water shutdown from 9pm-3am
Thank you for your ongoing patience as we work towards improved water resilience for the Featherston community’s water supply.
To do this work, the water supply to properties shown in the affected area below needs to be temporarily turned off. This will happen on Sunday evening at 9pm and will be restored by 3am Monday morning.
Please note that there will be some noise associated with this work with saws running prior to 8pm to cut existing pipework. Steps have been taken to minimise noise disruption and noise readings will be taken during night works.
Project advice letters are being delivered to affected residents in the areas shown below on Friday morning. Traffic management is in place. Please ensure that vehicles are kept clear of the work site.
If you need water during this period, you should fill up suitable containers before the water is turned off.
- Try not to use hot taps while the water is off. Hot water cylinders may be damaged if the water level gets too low.
- Do not use washing machines, automatic dishwashers or other appliances that use water during the shut-off period as they may be damaged if used without water.
- In the event of very bad weather, work will be deferred to a later date.
- When the water supply is turned back on, the water may have a milky-white appearance.
