Community meetings – The Future of Wairarapa Local Government

The Government is progressing Simplifying Local Government reform, which could significantly change how councils and services are structured in the future.

Across Wairarapa, the three councils are working through what these changes could mean for our communities, including potential amalgamation. This includes considering options such as a Wairarapa-based unitary council or being part of a wider Wellington model. These decisions will shape how local services are delivered, how infrastructure is funded, and how communities are represented for years to come.

This is the early part of the process, and community input will play an important role in shaping Council’s approach.

We’re inviting residents to come along to a community meeting to:

  • Learn more about what’s being proposed
  • Understand what a unitary authority could look like
  • Explore what this could mean for local representation
  • How you can engage with this process moving forward

Mayor Fran Wilde and elected members will be there to provide an overview and hear directly from you.

Meeting dates:

MartinboroughThursday 4 June, 7pmWaihenga Centre
GreytownTuesday 9 June, 7pmWorkingmen’s Club
Featherston Thursday 11 June, 7pmAnzac Hall

These changes are significant and will affect how local government operates in our district. We encourage you to come along, find out more, and be part of the conversation.
