From Age Concern Wairarapa
Sing their praises, blow their trumpets…
Age Concern Wairarapa needs our community’s help to identify the Senior Person of the Year, 2021. The award was not given in 2020 due to the COVID lockdown, but this year the team are determined to seek out the best of our best! The Senior Person of the Year award celebrates those who make an impact on other people’s lives, who give their time and service, and who contribute to Wairarapa community life.
If we are at Alert Level 1, the award will be announced at a special morning tea celebration on October 1, which is the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. The Senior Person of the Year award is supported by Age Concern Wairarapa, Carterton District Council, Masterton District Council and South Wairarapa District Council. The three Councils are delighted to be supporting this special award as part of the Wairarapa Regional Positive Ageing Strategy.
Age Concern Wairarapa Manager Nik Rilkoff says we won’t let Covid get in the way of this year’s award. “Even if we can’t have an awards ceremony in person, we want to celebrate the special, awe-inspiring, older people in our community”
“With all this time in our bubbles, I am certain that we can pick up a pen and write down the reasons why an older person we know deserves to be celebrated
Previous award winners include Alison Underhill, Rod Sutherland, May Brown, Nigel Boniface and Helen Gray.
