SH2 Featherston Flood mitigation – February update

Following an update in January about works to help address the flooding issue on SH2 in Featherston, we expect this work to commence mid-March, pending KiwiRail approval of the NZTA workplan.

The NZTA via the Wellington Transport Alliance (their highway maintenance supplier) has planned work to replace the stormwater culvert under SH2 between the Railway crossing and Daniel Street. This work will help mitigate the localised flooding and with NZTA delivering and funding majority of the work, it will come at a minor cost to Council.

NZTA is committed to getting started as soon as possible. The approval they are awaiting from KiwiRail will allow them to work adjacent to the railway corridor, and once this approval is gained, a date will be confirmed.

SWDC continue to keep in close contact with the agencies involved and we look forward to sharing more information when timeframes are confirmed.
