Notice: Pest control at Greytown cemetery

29 March 2022

From today, Greater Wellington is conducting rabbit pest control at the Greytown cemetery on the South Wairarapa District Council’s behalf.

This is being done to control the growing rabbit population which is causing significant damage to the cemetery grounds.

If you see green pellets on the ground, please do not pick them up. The poison being used is pindone, which has low toxicity to humans but a strong effect on rabbits.

Public warning signs will be erected to advise passers-by, but please closely supervise children and pets in the area.

Dogs are not allowed in cemeteries, on lead or off. If a dog should eat a pellet, their owners are advised to induce vomiting and take their pet to the vet.

Follow-up night shooting will be carried out if required. Night shooting in Featherston cemetery is also possible.
