Road alerts and closures

  • SH53 Waihenga bridge is CLOSED between 9am – 3pm on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 September while NZTA Waka Kotahi clear slash and debris from the bridge. Alternative routes are via Kahutara and Lake Ferry Roads (note the weight limit for the Lower Valley bridge), or via Ponatahi Road.
  • Whakatomotomo Road from Te Rata Road intersection is OPEN FOR RESIDENTS ONLY, and has a single lane and weight restriction of 3500kg. Read more here.
  • Note – the Jenkins Dip spillway at SH53 Waihenga Bridge will operate at a lower river level of 4 metres instead of 4.5 metres until repairs are completed on the damaged Tawaha Sill. Read more here.
