Whakatomotomo Road – temporary access

Whakatomotomo Road is currently open to residents only while a long-term solution to remediate the damaged road is delivered.

The temporary solution is now in place for resident access:

  • The current status of the road is suitable for cars and utes only, up to 3500kg. Heavy vehicles, including logging trucks and other large trailers, are restricted from using the road.
  • The road will operate as a single lane with priority give-way.
  • The speed limit through the road is 30km/h.
  • For safety reasons, the road may need to be closed during periods of heavy rainfall, severe weather, or significant seismic activity, when there is an increased risk of slope movement. Council will monitor this on an ongoing basis and communicate ahead of time with residents if we consider the rainfall to be a risk.

We encourage residents to:

  • Keep an eye on weather forecasts and any updates from Council.
  • Plan ahead during periods of severe weather.
  • Maintain a supply of essential items such as food, drinking water, medications, and other necessities in case road access becomes temporarily restricted.
  • Contact us immediately if you observe anything on the road that is a concern.
