Following the reopening of the Turanganui bridge on Lake Ferry Road, the extent of damage along Cape Palliser Road has been discovered to be significant.
To allow roading crews to address and repair the damage, Cape Palliser Road will be closed to all traffic apart from residents and essential travel (such as work, deliveries, stock movement) from Thursday 2 July between 6.30am and 6pm each day until further notice, likely by Matariki weekend.
The closure will begin 3km before the Hurupi bridge and extend through to the end of Cape Palliser Road. There will be multiple work sites along the road, and caution is advised when driving. The fewer interruptions our crews experience, the sooner the road can reopen.
Travel over the Turanganui bridge is still advised for essential travel only.
Thank you to the impacted communities for their ongoing understanding while we work to restore access.
