Libraries
All library branches will be closed at 4pm Fri 20 Dec 2024. The afterhours returns slots will be closed so please hold onto your items – we do not charge for overdue items. You will still be able to access the digital collection and use the Libby app over this time. Swimming pools
The three public swimming pools in South Wairarapa are open throughout the summer apart from Christmas Day. See swdc.govt.nz/services/swimming-pools/ for more information about holiday hours.
Transfer stations
All of the council’s transfer stations remain open with their usual hours, with the exception of being closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. See swdc.govt.nz/services/rubbish-and-recycling/ for more information about holiday hours.
Rubbish and recycling
Reminder that when a public holiday falls on a week day, it delays all subsequent collections for that week by one day. For example: Wednesday (Christmas Day) collection is on Thursday and the Thursday collection that week will occur on Friday.
*Despite Christmas and Boxing Day occurring in the same week, collection will occur just one day later than your normal collection, not two.
*Extra coastal collection starts on Friday 20 December, 2024. The last extra Friday is 31 January 2025, in February 2025 standard Monday only service will resume. Tora weekly collection has started for 2024.
Alcohol licensing
Under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, the days of 20 December to 15 January inclusive are not classed as working days. We are unable to accept or issue any alcohol licence applications between these days. If you are planning an event over the summer, check out our timeframes for processing notice here: swdc.govt.nz/notices-and-updates/special-licence-timeframes-for-summer-2024-25-events/
