MEDIA RELEASE: Consent application for Underhill Rd

18 February 2021

There is an active resource consent application being processed by South Wairarapa District Council under the Resource Management Act (RMA) for river stone stockpiling and crushing on Underhill Rd, Featherston.

Officers must follow the RMA applications process as set out in legislation and prescribed by the Wairarapa Combined District Plan to determine the potential effects of the proposal and decide whether the application will be publicly notified, limited notified, or be non-notified.

The application was received from Russell Hooper Consulting on behalf of Peter Warren Earthmoving Ltd on 23 October 2020 and was assessed as needing further information in order to process, for which a request was made, and the application was put on hold. This requested information is yet to be received.

SWDC&rsquo s RMA process, known as the land use consent process, includes an assessment of potential effects, such as acoustics and road traffic, and will determine whether the application needs to be notified. If it is determined the effects extend to the surrounding area only, then the application will be &lsquo limited notified&rsquo to the identified properties, being the &lsquo affected parties&rsquo . These identified properties will be contacted. If the effects are deemed to be wider, the application will be &#39 publicly notified&rsquo in the paper and on the Council website.

The processing clock was stopped on day 6 and will restart when the required information is received. SWDC officers have 20 working days from the lodgment day to determine if notification is required.

We cannot pre-empt a decision, but due to considerable public interest officers will keep the public informed of the status of the application.

A diagram showing the full land use consent process is available on our website here.
