The weather has eased across the region however river levels remain elevated, and surface flooding remains. There are ongoing impacts across the Wairarapa roading network and many roads remain closed due to flooding and slips. As the day progresses, we expect to receive further reports of damage across the region. If you are travelling, please take care and if you notice anything hazardous, report it to council on 06 306 9611.

*Update 29 June – All alt access routes into Martinborough are now open*
The Longbush Road access route is currently the only road open in or out of Martinborough. The Ponatahi bridge is expected to open after midday Monday 29 June. The Waihenga bridge remains closed.

Work on the Turanganui bridge is underway and is expected to be reestablished midweek. Rock and other materials are being sourced to be able to get going on repairs as soon as the river levels subside. For the safety of the community and to support the urgent repair work, please avoid the Turanganui bridge area. Public presence or attempts to cross will place both the individuals and workers at risk.

The Wairarapa Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been established and is focused on supporting the welfare of those impacted, particularly the isolated communities on the south side of the Turanganui bridge of Lake Ferry, Whangaimoana, Cape Palliser and Ngawi. Our welfare team is actively responding to community requests and is planning for the delivery of food and essential supplies. If you, or someone you know, requires urgent welfare support, please call your local council, where staff will triage and connect you with the appropriate services.
