Featherston Watermain Renewals update

Featherston Watermain Renewals project is going well and is now 78% complete with 1,575 metres laid out of the total 1,998 metres, which will be laid on the project’s completion.

This project was first cab off the rank for Council in bringing the delivery of the capital water programme back in-house from Wellington Water Ltd (WWL) in July 2025.

Work began in November 2025 on this essential project, which will improve water supply resilience to the Featherston community.

The contractor undertaking this work is Elite Drainage Wairarapa. The anticipated benefits of Council managing its waters capital programme directly include more cost control and efficiency and the use of local contractors as project leads or subcontractors, where appropriate.

Phase one is done with sites completed and connections made on Ludlam Street, Birdwood Street, Waite Street, Fitzherbert Street (east), Crawford Street and Boundary Road. Next in line are connections on Lyon Street and work on Fitzherbert Street (commercial area) and Fox Street.
