Honouring stalwarts of Local Government in service to their community

South Wairarapa District Council acknowledges the great distinction bestowed on two notable legends of local government: The late David Cull, ex-mayor of Dunedin (2007 to 2010) and Bob Francis, ex-mayor of Masterton (1989 to 2007) were both honoured in this year’s Queens’s Birthday Honours list. They received the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Mr. Cull influenced numerous local and national initiatives, however, his relentless support of local government and efforts to lift the quality of how we do what we do stands out for our community.

Mr. Bob Francis has had numerous positions across local government and the community, but his efforts with digital seniors is fondly remembered in South Wairarapa. Both of their achievements have been widely reported and we acknowledge how far reaching and meaningful their efforts have been to all our communities. Well deserved!
