Road closure notice: Birdwood Street, Featherston

Birdwood Street in Featherston will be closed for road works at the Fox Street/Birdwood Street intersection from Wednesday 20 May at 7.30am until Tuesday 30 June at 5pm, between Fitzherbert Street (SH2) and Tait Crescent.

South Wairarapa District Council has engaged Higgins Contractors to undertake this work, which will involve widening the footpath at each corner of the intersection and installing centre islands to improve pedestrian safety.

The Birdwood Street intersection with Fox Street will be closed on both sides of the road for the duration of the work from its commencement on Wednesday 20 May at 7.30am. A stop/go operation will also be in place on Fox Street at various times when installing the centre islands and working on widening the footpaths at each corner.

Pedestrian diversions will be in place while work is being done on the footpaths.

This work will improve pedestrian safety at this intersection when completed with kerb build outs, footpath extensions, the installation of islands, a raised platform at the intersection and improved signage and markings.

The Council thanks the community for their patience while the work is taking place.

The street will be open after 5pm and on weekends.
