Update: Featherston boil notice

22 February 2022

Wellington Water began flushing the Featherston water supply yesterday (Monday) and expects to finishing the work Tuesday afternoon.

The water became contaminated after groundwater overflowed into the Boer Bush reservoir during a severe flooding event a week ago.

After the flushing finishes, the team will take samples to make sure the water is safe to drink and monitor the network for at least three days to ensure the system is clear. Please continue to boil all drinking water during this time.

A water tanker for residents’ use remains in place on Fox St, opposite the skate park.

Water from the tanker is treated and does not need to be boiled. However, please continue to boil any water from your taps for a full minute before consumption.

Wellington Water understands the boil water notice is frustrating and appreciates residents’ patience. They expect the boil water notice to be lifted later this week.

The boil water notice applies to all businesses and residents connected to the urban water supply. Please follow the instructions in previous notices as to when boiling water is required.
