Water supply notice: Featherston – Wednesday 1 July 2026

Water shutdown from 9am – 5pm

Our thanks to the Featherston community as we’ve been steadily working towards completing our Featherston Watermain Renewal project.

We have one last section of pipe (approximately 12m in length) to lay in Hickson Street, which will be laid in one shift on Wednesday 1 July 2026. The other outstanding work is around the KiwiRail crossing, which is yet to be scheduled.

To do this work, the water supply to properties shown in the affected area below needs to be temporarily turned off. This will happen on Wednesday from 9am until 5pm. The longer timeframe is needed because the water needs to be shut down while removing and laying the new pipe.

Project advice letters are being delivered to affected residents in the area shown below on Monday afternoon. Traffic management is in place. Please ensure that vehicles are kept clear of the work site.

Given the longer timeframe for the water shutdown, it is suggested that you may want to fill up suitable containers before the water is turned off.

  • Try not to use hot taps while the water is off. Hot water cylinders may be damaged if the water level gets too low.
  • Do not use washing machines, automatic dishwashers or other appliances that use water during the shut-off period as they may be damaged if used without water.
  • In the event of very bad weather, work will be deferred to a later date.
  • When the water supply is turned back on, the water may have a milky-white appearance.
