News: Take care on the roads

15 August 2022

The recent rain has softened the ground in many parts of our roading network.

Drivers are urged to take care at The Gluepot in particular, which is under repair, and on White Rock Road, which is single lane in places.

While our roading contractors have been working solidly to clear slips and repair ‘drop-outs’, we are concerned that further rain will lead to more damage, and also divert crews away from urgent work.

We’re asking drivers to be careful and patient if they come across damage, and to let us know in case it is a job we are unaware of, at enquiries@swdc.govt.nz

Thanks to our roading crews who worked very long hours last week to re-establish access or clear roads for several communities, particularly at Admiral Road, Hinekura, White Rock, Tuturumuri, Tora and Te Awaiti.

Thanks also to those communities who have been isolated and have had to wait patiently for roads to be cleared and brought back to a usable state. It is likely that more slips and damage will happen as the earth dries out, so please remain careful and drive to the conditions, especially as you navigate rural roads.
