Road closure notices: Upcoming chip sealing work

Our Council’s annual chip sealing work has been scheduled on roads across the district with the dates and details of this work outlined below.

The contractor for this work is Fulton Hogan. If work needs to be postponed due to weather conditions, it will take place the following day, as outlined below.

The first road to have annual chip sealing is Sackville Street in Martinborough, between York and Dublin streets with work scheduled to take place on two separate.

Martinborough chip sealing road work

Monday 14 September 2026, 8am to 5pm – stop/go on Oxford Street, New York Street and side road closures.

Monday 28 September 2026, 8am to 5pm – stop/go on Oxford Street, Dublin Street and side road closures.

No detour has been set in place and if the work needs to be postponed due to weather, it will take place the following day.

Featherston chip sealing road work – Waite Street

Monday 21 September 8am to 5pm – Waite Street will be closed at the intersection of SH2 and SH53.

SH2 will be closed for one hour to allow sealing between SH2 and SH53 (Revan Street) and then reopened.

SH53 will be closed for one hour to allow 400 metres of sealing south and then open at the intersection and signs moved further down Waite Street for the remainder of the day with stop/go signs in place.

The detour route will be Hickson-Fox streets and if the work needs to be postponed due to weather conditions, it will take place the following day.

Featherston chip sealing road work – Watt Street

Tuesday 22 September 8am to 5pm – side road closures will be in place on 5 Watt Street and Boar Bush Gully Road with minor delays expected while bitumen is sprayed and chip placed. This could take up to 20 minutes but can be reduced to three minutes for emergency vehicles.

No detour route is in place and if the work needs to be postponed due to weather conditions, it will take place the following day.

Wednesday 30 September 8am to 5pm – Bell Street side road closures
