Derelict Building Issue in South Wairarapa

In April 2014 a report went to Council discussing potential options for dealing with the effects of derelict buildings on our District’s amenity value.  The legal possibilities that have been researched to date are not viable options to effectively deal with tidying up derelict commercial buildings.  The current law would need to be changed by central government.  See the next paragraph dealing with a similar report from Rotorua District Council.  View the original report to Council here:

The Council recently received a short report from Rotorua District Council highlighting similar difficulties in dealing with derelict properties.  Their conclusion is that changes to Acts may be the best way forward.  People who have made submissions on the South Wairarapa District Council about derelict buildings may be interested in the RDC information on derelict buildings, here:
