Long-term Plan 2024-34

What will South Wairarapa look like in 10 years?

Every three years, we review our Long-term Plan. This sets the direction for the next 10 years, outlines priorities and initiatives, how much it all costs, and where the money might come from. While Council must have a long-term view to be able to make sound decisions and plan well for them, 10 years is a long time, and a lot of things can change. So, every three years the plan is refreshed for the next decade to make sure it is still fit for purpose.

It’s an important opportunity for us to look forward and take into consideration the changes to the economic and environmental conditions over the past 3 years. There is a real need to factor these impacts into our long-term activities as we balance delivery for our communities with affordability.

FAQS

What does the planning process look like?
The final Long-term Plan will be approved by the Mayor and Councillors following months of work and public consultation.

After each phase of engagement, Councillors will review the public’s feedback and use it to make their decisions at each stage of building the plan. They will make their final decision about what is or isn’t in the plan in May 2024.

The final plan is due to be adopted by Council by the end of June 2024 and will then be available on our website from July 2024. The plan will come into force on 1 July 2024 and will direct our work until the next iteration in 2027.
