MEDIA RELEASE: Craggy Range donates 800 gifts to Wairarapa’s ‘Pack the Bus’ for a second year

3 December 2020

After the Martinborough Square ‘Pack the Bus’ park-up this morning, Craggy Range requested a special stop at its Te Muna vineyard, where it was met by Craggy Range staff who went on to pack an outstanding 800 gifts onto the bus for Wairarapa families in need this Christmas.

This is the second year Craggy Range has been on board to support the ‘Pack the Bus’ initiative, last year surprising the community with tractors delivering 800 santa sacks to Martinborough Square.

It was another spectacular scene this year, with the Craggy Range team and members of the local wine industry all hands on deck to celebrate this special occasion.

South Wairarapa Mayor Alex Beijen travelled to the Te Muna vineyard to witness the magnificent scene. Speaking on behalf of all three Wairarapa district councils, Mr Beijen says a big thank you to Craggy Range.

“Craggy Range has for the second year in a row been so generous towards this wonderful Wairarapa initiative. The kindness towards Wairarapa whanau who have experienced hardship will make a huge difference, especially after such a difficult year.

“On behalf of the three Wairarapa districts, I would like to thank you for your ongoing generosity and commitment towards such a great cause.

“All donations to ‘Pack the Bus’, both large and small, are so gratefully received and it is always very moving to witness,” says Mayor Alex Beijen.

Craggy Range is a proud founding partner of the ‘A Children’s Christmas’ Foundation created in response to the alarming trend for child poverty in Hawke’s Bay. General Manager of Craggy Range says supporting the community is a key part of their business.

“Supporting our community is a key pillar for us as a business. In 2018 we launched our ‘A Children’s Christmas’ Foundation to make a difference to the lives of children experiencing hardship across the communities where we farmed.

“We now have more vineyard area in Martinborough than Hawke’s Bay, so it is absolutely critical for us through our Children’s Foundation to support fantastic local initiatives like ‘Pack the Bus’. This year we are donating more than 800 Santa Sacks for kids across the Wairarapa”.

Craggy Range and the Wairarapa ‘Pack the Bus’ initiative sees that each santa sack filled with educational gifts, including a backpack, books, sporting ball and stationery, helps to equip kids for the new school year. The sacks will be distributed along with all the other donated gifts from the generous Wairarapa community by the region’s food banks.

‘Pack the Bus’ Wairarapa is an initiative between Tranzit Coachlines, Masterton District Council, Carterton District Council, South Wairarapa District Council, Mitre 10 MEGA, Property Brokers Wairarapa and proudly supported by Wairarapa’s MoreFM.

If you would like to donate to Pack the Bus, see our Facebook page for further details, the bus will stop in Greytown tomorrow at Freshchoice from 8.30am -10.30am before visiting it’s final destination at Carterton New World at 12.00pm – 1.30pm.
