Alcohol Control Bylaw

NOTICE: COUNCIL ADOPTS ALCOHOL CONTROL BYLAW 2021

South Wairarapa District Council adopted the Alcohol Control Bylaw 2021 at its meeting on 3 November 2021.

The bylaw, which comes into operation on 4 November, controls the consumption, bringing into, or possession of alcohol in public places.

An alcohol control bylaw is generally considered to be an effective regulatory tool to help the Council and Police promote and maintain public health and safety.

The bylaw controls for temporary special events in public places, including Toast Martinborough. There are no permanent alcohol ban areas in the bylaw but it enables Council to establish alcohol ban areas in future by resolution where criteria is met.

Hearings and deliberations were held on 22 September following a period of formal consultation from 2 August to 5 September.

A copy of the final bylaw is available here.  The bylaw is also available for inspection from the Council offices at 19 Kitchener Street Martinborough and the libraries in Featherston, Greytown and Martinborough.
