Notice: Council and Christmas hours

The South Wairarapa District Council will close at midday, 24 December and reopen again at 9am, 5 January 2021.

Library lovers, please note that the Greytown, Martinborough and Featherston branches will also be closed from midday Friday 24 December until 9.30am Wednesday 5 January. The after hours slots will also be closed.

Not everything closes for the holidays. Recycling is as normal in the three towns, except for Christmas and New Years days. Rubbish is also as normal, with some extra collections on the south coast. And the pools are open and free every day except Christmas Day (please bring a Vaccine Pass if you’re over 12 years 3 months).

For enquiries under the Local Government Official Information Act and LIMs (land information memorandums), the number of working days involved in those enquiries pause over the Christmas and New Years break between 20 December and 10 January.

Food and alcohol licences are also affected. According to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, the days form 20 December to 15 January are not working days, so licences cannot legally be issued, although applications can be accepted if staff are on duty.

Contractors should note that that roading work in our CBDs is restricted during the busy summer holiday period. Until 5 January, emergency works are able to occur, but urgent works need special permission. For more information, please call the corridor manager via the Council at 06 3069611.
