Martinborough town water supply – discolouration

8.30am 2 May 2019

Last night SWDC’s contractors CityCare responded to reports of discoloured water within the town supply, at the end of town near Princess Street.

We understand that the problem has now been resolved and was caused by air in the pipes from the pumps, which happens from time to time. The issue is unrelated to any flushing activities, which have not started yet. Advice to households experiencing brown water, is to run a cold tap until the water runs clear.

This incident with the brown water is a clear indication of the need to make sure that the water network pipes are flushed before we start chlorination.

Further information about the planned flushing from 6 to 11 May, including timings, will be released later today.

Please make sure that you continue to boil water for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.
