Press Release
Increase in Waihinga Centre Budget
13 January 2017
At the SWDC Council meeting on Wednesday 18 January the South Wairarapa District Council will discuss the final pricing and loan arrangements of the Waihinga Centre.
SWDC CEO, Paul Crimp says the Council set a series of review points, based on timings and milestones and these will be discussed at future Council meetings as they happen.
“We have reached the final milestone with the receipt of the final pricing. This has come out just under $90,000 more than the initial approval of $5.1M., which was made in February 2016.”
“The key component of the increase is the cost of earthquake strengthening, and this is understandable following the two major events since the first estimate was made in 2013.”
“There are still opportunities to reduce the actual cost further, and now that quantities of materials are known we are in a position to approach vendors with a proposal to participate further. Our main contractor has indicated that any savings in materials we can achieve will be reflected in a reduction to the overall amount paid.”
All Council meetings are open to the public and there opportunities for pubic to speak at these. For more information contact the SWDC 06 306 9611.
