South Wairarapa District Council is facing a challenging period for the resourcing of our animal control service due to staff sickness and availability. This has led to temporarily pause to the availability of our out of hours animal control service (including weekends) until 30 November 2023.

People can assist by keeping dogs and other animals secure in gardens and enclosures. Stray or wandering dogs, if it is safe to do so, should be contained and Council staff will pick it up as soon as practicable.

Animals creating an immediate risk to safety should be reported immediately to the Police on *555

Our animal control services are still available for call outs Monday to Friday from 8am – 5pm.
